CBFAR Annual Gathering

Fellowship Baptists from around the state came together to celebrate Communion, worship together, meet for business, and enjoy lunch. Calvary Baptist Church in Little Rock hosted the CBF of Arkansas annual meeting on Saturday, April 20.

Rev. Diana Gunlock Lane, a recent graduate of McAfee School of Theology, Networking Specialist for CBFAR, and Executive Director of the Emil & Marianne Williams Community Services Center in Jonesboro, preached the sermon, entitled, "A Young Leader's Journey with CBF."  Carol Heavin, a member of Calvary, led worship, and Rev. Jonathan Kelley led the Communion service.  Marc Heflin, a deacon at  Second Baptist Little Rock and Moderator of CBFAR, led the business session. Rev. Steve Sheely, pastor of Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Fayetteville, began his service as Moderator for the 2013-2014 year. Jennifer Wylie, founder of Hope Landing, CEO of Eagle Foundation, and a member of First Baptist El Dorado, was chosen to serve as Moderator-Elect.

Photos of our meeting will be posted soon!

Offering for Hope Helps Fund Together for Hope Arkansas

The 2013 budget for Together for Hope Arkansas is $87,000.  The Offering for Hope  offers churches an opportunity to fund the TFHAR budget.

In 2012 the goal was $85,000 and $91,000 was raised!  This year’s goal is $87,000.  Churches and individuals in Arkansas will provide as much as $30,000 toward the goal.

Please click here to download a flier that you can use as a handout in your church.  You may post it on your website or send it out as an e-news to your congregation or network.  Thank you for making it possible for Together for Hope to be the presence of Christ in the Arkansas Delta.

Disaster Response

CBFAR Reaches Out to the Newtown, CT Community

Wilton Baptist Church

In response to the disaster in Newtown, CBF Arkansas reached out to the local CBF congregation, Wilton Baptist Church in Wilton, CT. We provided Pastor Jason Coker a copy of the book Leading Congregations Throuch Crisis, by Dr. Greg Hunt. Jason found the book so helpful that he wished he could give a copy to all the 20-plus ministers in the area. CBFAR worked with Jason to provide the additional copies, and, with the help of the CBF chapters in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas, we were able to fund a trip for Dr. Hunt to the area. Wilton Baptist Church will host a day-long seminar with Dr. Hunt and Dr. David Lane of Mercer University on April 26th. The full story is in our latest CBFAR newsletter. Learn more >>

Lives Are Changed by CBF's Disaster Response

Charles and Pam

A few days after Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf, Ray and Charles delivered a load of supplies to the University Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, MS. That trip led to CBFAR starting its own Disaster Response work, which has taken teams to several states, and even to Haiti, assisting those with the greatest needs and least resources. Then, last month, Hattiesburg again suffered major damage as the result of a tornado. Although University Baptist was spared, the neighborhood was not.

While assisting with the cleanup effort, Charles met a local woman whose home had been destroyed in the tornado, and in the process, was reminded why CBF's Disaster Response intiative is so important. He details this encounter in the latest CBFAR newsletter. Learn more >>
